Irvine, California — The University of California, Irvine is proud to announce that Karen Bruce, a student in the Campuswide Honors Collegium (CHC) has been selected as a National Editor for UReCA: The NCHC Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity for the 2025–2026 academic year.

UReCA is one of the few national, interdisciplinary undergraduate journals in the United States dedicated to fostering intellectual curiosity and innovation by showcasing exceptional work from undergraduate students around the globe. Out of 71 applicants, Bruce was chosen as one of just twelve National Editors—an honor that reflects both academic excellence and a commitment to scholarly engagement.

As a National Editor, Bruce will represent UC Irvine while collaborating with a team of peers from across the country. Editors are responsible for reviewing submissions, curating content, and contributing to the publication process over the course of one academic year. This year’s editorial team will also help produce a special 10th-anniversary edition of UReCA, celebrating a decade of student-led publishing excellence.

“We are thrilled to welcome Karen to the editorial team during such a milestone year for UReCA,” said Dr. Jayda Coons of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Faculty Sponsor for UReCA. “Their contributions will play a vital role in shaping the journal’s next chapter.”

“I am incredibly honored to be selected as one of twelve National Editors for the Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (UReCA) and am proud to represent UC Irvine and the Campuswide Honors Collegium at a national level,” said Bruce. “I am excited to be working in a space that celebrates the research of honors students across the country and look forward to learning from the diverse array of projects that I will help review. As part of this role, I also hope to help raise awareness of UReCa among CHC students and encourage more participation from our community. ”
